Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival To Guatemala City

Arrival, Meet & Greet at La Aurora International Airport and transfer to La Antigua Guatemala

Day 2 - A Cultural Immersion in Antigua Guatemala

Visiting indigenous communities around La Antigua Guatemala, we are going to begin traveling to San Juan del Obispo, the chocolate factory, and also the Catholic church; then we continue to San Pedro las Huertas, which includes a visit to the artisanal jade factory, and central park.

Following this stop we will head towards Ciudad Vieja, the second capital of Guatemala, The Spaniards established their capital in 1527 right after their previous capital at Tecpán Guatemala turned untenable. The town was damaged by the devastating lahar from Volcan de Agua in 1541, and the capital was relocated to Antigua Guatemala.

Then we will go to macadamia plantation that is an organic experimental project, following the macadamia farm we are going to visit Santiago Zamora village in which we will have an encounter with local families that are organized inside a women organization.

Here you will learn about the artisanal technics of textile production, and their daily life activities as well its customs, here also we will enjoy a local food prepared from old Maya recipe.

After this immersion in the daily life of the actual Maya of Guatemala, we get back to La Antigua Guatemala. From here we will start a walking tour visiting the main buildings, plazas, and churches of this colonial jewel declared as a Cultural World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Day 3 - Antigua Guatemala Birdwatching Tour

Early in the morning we will travel towards San Cristobal El Alto to discover a number of the regional bird endemism (throughout the neotropical migratory season is possible to spot migratory and resident bird species)

Day 4 - Tecpan & Tarrales Birding & Nature Tour

Day 5 - Birding Tour at Los Tarrales

Day 6 - Paquisis Volcano Birding Tour

Early in the morning coffee break and cookies, then we will take a short boat trip, and transfer to Paquisis, which is part of San Pedro Volcano Natural Park, an important area that inhabits the Horned Guan, the hike needs a high effort and is necessary to be mentally and physically prepared.

If part of the group of family considers not take it, we will have another good birding or cultural tour options.

After a morning birding adventure, we get back to the hotel for lunch and rest; in the afternoon, we will visit Santiago Atitlan Village.

Day 7 - Tepepul Birding Tour & Cultural Adventure in San Juan La Laguna

Early breakfast at the hotel and transfer towards El Mirador Del Rey Tepepul, which is located just 15 minutes from the hotel, this birding hotspot inhabit regional endemism including the beautiful Resplendent Quetzal.

After a birding tour, we will take a boat trip towards San Juan La Laguna for nature, and cultural immersion, visiting the communitarian coffee project, textile production projects, and shops.

After this cultural tour, we return to our hotel

Day 8 - Lake Atitlan - Chichicastenango Market - Flores Peten

Take note that we will suggest starting your trip in dates to coincide with Chichicastenango Market which is a great experience that takes place every Thursday and Sundays.

After breakfast boat transfer to Panajachel from where we will board our transportation towards the colorful market of Chichicastenango to enjoy an experience in one of the most vibrant native markets in Latin America.

After this cultural tour, we will continue to Guatemala city with a break on the route for lunch, after lunch, we will continue to La Aurora International airport to take a short flight to the island of Flores, the capital of the Peten province, located in the beautiful Lake Peten Itza.

Day 9 - Las Guacamayas Station

After breakfast, we are going to take a transfer towards Paso Caballo a Q’eqchi’, an indigenous community located on the banks of San Pedro River. On route, we will stop several times for birding.

At our arrival to Paso Caballos, we will take a 45 minutes boat ride to Las Gucamayas Station, check in and lunchtime, and a short rest.

Afternoon birding walk around the lodge with an excellent birding and wildlife opportunity, ending the day at El Mirador of Las Guacamayas.

Day 10 - Wildlife & Birding

Early birding walk around the station to enjoy the wildlife of this natural paradise.

Return for breakfast and be prepared for a boat ride to El Peru trail, in the quest for more birds and wildlife. The boat ride itself in the middle of this reserve located inside Laguna del Tigre national park and the most extensive wetlands in Central America is a unique experience.

Return to the EBG for lunch, short rest and then continue in the quest for more birds. At the return, we will prepare our flashlights because we are going to take a nocturnal adventure, a boat ride through San Pedro River or Sacluc stream looking for owls, nightjars, potoos and another nocturnal creature.

Day 11 - Wildlife Adventure at Las Guacamayas Station

Wildlife observation opportunity and breakfast, before to take a boat ride coming back to Paso Caballos from where we will board our transportation towards Tikal national park.

On route break for lunch and birding opportunity around El Remate area, before to continue to Tikal.

Arrival to Tikal entrance, this a just 16 kilometers trip inside of a lush tropical forest with an excellent wildlife observation opportunity.

Day 12 - Tikal Birding - Nature - Maya History

Wildlife observation opportunity and breakfast, before to take a boat ride coming back to Paso Caballos from where we will board our transportation towards Tikal national park.

On route break for lunch and birding opportunity around El Remate area, before to continue to Tikal.

Arrival to Tikal entrance, this a just 16 kilometers trip inside of a lush tropical forest with an excellent wildlife observation opportunity.

Day 13 - Tikal - Yaxha - Guatemala City

Early morning birding opportunity, then break for breakfast, and we are going to take transportation towards Yaxha Archaeological site.

At our arrival we will visit the archaeological site, the third largest after El Mirador and Tikal, beside the Maya history and archaeological tour, you will have the opportunity of birds and wildlife observation.

After the tour we continue to the restaurant for lunch then we return to Mundo Maya international airport to take a short flight back to Guatemala City.
