Following these parameters, UNESCO named Tikal Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 1979. Later it was assigned the category of a nuclear area within the Maya Biosphere Reserve, the largest protected reserve of northern Guatemala confined to protecting nature and other archaeological centers of the Mayan culture.

    Tours to Tikal

Tours to Tikal can be organized departing from Flores and places around, from San Ignacio in Belize or the border, from La Antigua Guatemala, or Guatemala City.

They can be organized as a visit for the day, but we recommend staying at least one night in the park if you have the time to make a visit. So, you can enjoy tours at sunrise or sunset. At these times, the number of visitors is less, which will allow you the possibility of encounters with wildlife. Also, with fewer people, you can take better photographs.

What Will You Find in Tikal?

The place where the remains of architecture are located practically occupies the center of the 576 square kilometers that the Tikal National Park covers. Here, you can explore one of this Mayan metropolis’s most famous temples, pyramids, and palaces.

In addition, you will learn about the protected wildlife, including mammals, birds, and reptiles, under the enormous variety of trees and plants that populate the rich jungle of the region.

Where to stay when visiting Tikal

There are three hotels, Jungle Lodge, Tikal Inn, and Jaguar Inn. Also, there is the possibility to stay in the camping ground. The hotel Jaguar Inn also provides a tent rental service.

    Where To Buy Tikal Tickets

If you travel by plane, at your arrival will find a CHN Bank at the Mundo Maya International Airport. Also, there is a bank office at the entrance of the Tikal National Park.
