Best Places to Include in a Belize Vacation
Belize is easiest to understand by region. Cayo brings together rainforest, caves and Maya sites, while Ambergris Caye, Placencia and Hopkins each offer a different experience of the Caribbean coast.
The north deserves time too. Lamanai and Cerros add another side of Belize’s Maya history, while La Milpa, Hill Bank and the forests around Chan Chich open up quieter areas for wildlife and nature. Lodges such as Chan Chich and Lamanai Outpost also place travelers close to the forest, rivers and archaeological landscapes of northern Belize.
Cayo District
Cayo is Belize’s inland base for rainforest, caves and ancient Maya cities. Around San Ignacio, travelers can explore Xunantunich, Caracol, forest reserves and river landscapes.
It works well at the beginning of a Belize journey, combining archaeology, wildlife and outdoor experiences before continuing to the coast.
Ambergris Caye & Caye Caulker
Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker are two of Belize’s main island bases for reef trips, snorkeling and diving.
San Pedro has more activity and services, while Caye Caulker keeps a smaller island feel. Both offer easy access to Hol Chan, Shark Ray Alley and nearby marine areas.
Placencia

Guatemala and Belize: Highlands to Reef

What is included in a Belize vacation package?
Inclusions depend on the itinerary. Your proposal may include hotels, private transportation, guides, entrance fees, reef excursions, internal flights, water transfers and selected meals. Everything included or excluded is confirmed in writing.
Are Belize vacation packages all-inclusive?
Some Belize resorts and lodges offer all-inclusive stays, but Martsam’s packages are private, tailor-made journeys rather than fixed resort bundles. Your proposal identifies the hotels, transfers, guides, activities, selected meals and internal connections included. International airfare and personal expenses remain separate unless the proposal states otherwise.
How many days do you need in Belize?
Seven days is enough to combine the Cayo District with one coastal or island stay. Four days inland and three on the coast is one good way to divide the week. If Maya sites, caves and rainforest interest you most, keep more time inland; if the reef and Caribbean are the priority, head to the coast sooner. With nine to ten days, you can spend longer in both. For Belize and Guatemala together, about 13 days works well.

Is Belize safe to visit?
No destination is free from risk. Official travel guidance identifies crime concerns, with particular warnings for parts of Belize City. Martsam plans private transportation, selected routes, suitable hotels and local support, but these arrangements cannot remove every risk.

Is Belize worth visiting?
Belize is particularly rewarding for travelers who want rainforest, Maya archaeology, wildlife and the barrier reef within one journey. It may be less suitable for someone whose priority is a large-city experience or a conventional resort-only vacation.
Can Belize be combined with Guatemala or Mexico?
Yes. Guatemala combines naturally with Belize through Tikal and the Maya lowlands. Mexico’s Yucatán can also connect with northern Belize. These routes work best when the itinerary allows enough time for border formalities and regional transfers.
