Crafting Meaningful, Tailor-Made Travel Experiences Across the Mayan World

Martsam Travel’s story began long before its official founding in June 1994. Its roots go back to the early 1970s on the island of Flores, Petén, when our family established one of the region’s very first tour and transportation companies. This pioneering step set the foundation for what would become a lifelong family legacy in travel.

Growing up in this environment, I spent every spare moment accompanying my father, absorbing the rhythm of early tourism in one of the world’s most remarkable cultural regions. After completing my studies as a technical drawer, I joined the Tikal Archaeological Project, contributing to research at one of the most iconic Maya sites. It was here that my passion for combining cultural heritage with nature-based exploration truly emerged.

Guided by this calling, I became a certified professional tour guide and pursued university studies in forestry, complementing my archaeological background. During this time, I met my wife, who was also studying tourism, and together we collaborated with airlines and international tour operators, gaining the global insight needed to build something exceptional.

In 1994, we founded Martsam Travel. What began as a dream has grown into a leading DMC specializing in tailor-made journeys throughout the Mayan world.

Our passion for the natural world, especially birdwatching and wildlife, later inspired the creation of a dedicated nature division—now recognized for delivering some of the region’s most immersive and unique naturalist expeditions.

Today, Martsam Travel proudly stands as a multigenerational family business. With the third generation now involved, our legacy of excellence, authenticity, and personalized service continues to evolve.
